Yesterday I decided I should start a new project. I opened the Aussie bird project file first, and picked the magpies … my favourite birds which have a beautiful voice for singing, can be friendly, but not when they are protecting their youngsters.

I then looked for some pieced blocks, and first picked one of my first scribbled blocks from 40 years ago, but looked for something a bit more intricate and tried Crystal Brook Stars collection. I wanted some flowers, and Aussie Bottle Brush was the first file I opened and added them to the new project.

HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY

I am celebrating with some Banksia Blocks … the different Banksia shrubs have several very different flower shapes in a variety of colours including assorted shades of yellow, orange and red.

The settings I have used are much more formal than the Aussie bush … perhaps the influence of large cities around the coast.

Around the country we will celebrate with BBQs, swimming at the beach or local and private pools, watching cricket and tennis live and on TV … it is going to be a hot day so I will be watering my garden and trying to keep in ...
